History

Our History

On September 16, 1986, the Greater Baton Rouge Federation of Churches and Synagogues came into being at B’nai Israel Synagogue. From its inception, the Interfaith Federation has built relationships among people of diverse religious, socio-economic, and racial backgrounds, breaking down barriers of misunderstanding through dialogue, education, prayer, shared meals, and particularly through service to our community as seen in our Holy Grill Feeding program which was begun in 1987.

In 2008 the name was changed to the Interfaith Federation of Greater Baton Rouge, reflecting the emerging partnership with other faith traditions such as the Muslim and Buddhist communities.
